2006-review: There is no specific treatment for CFS other than the much
underutilised approach of specific treatment of virus infections, devanur.kerr06.txt, devanur.kerr06.pdf. A subgroup has had recognizable
viral infection(s), hickie.etal06.txt. Immunoassay
with cytomegalovirus early antigens from gene products p52 and CM2 (UL44 and
UL57) detect active infection in patients with CFS, beqaj.etal07.txt,
beqaj.etal07.pdf. Hepatitis Virus C in FM/CFS
An association between chronic hepatitis
C virus (HCV) infection and fibromyalgia (FM) remains controversial, narvaez.etal05.txt, and Italian researchers
concluded no connection, palazzi.etal07.txt. Symptoms from treatment of this virus do resemble
CFS, raison.etal05.txt. HCV do not cause CFS, jones.etal05.txt. However, in chronic hepatitis B, the prevalence
of FM is higher, adak.etal06.txt. Higher
prevalence of FM in patients infected with human T cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV)-I,
cruz.etal06.txt Enterovirus
Enterovirus have much more
harmful effects than causing simple diarrhea. Enteroviruses may infect brain
cells and have been suggested in connection with FM and CFS, jou.etal01.txt. Renewed interest – and positive
findings - of these ubiquitous viruses in CFS and FM muscles because of
technical sophistication of methods, lane.etal03.txt,

Drs. Chia and Chia have demonstrated double-stranded enteroviral RNA in CFS
patients’s immune cells, chia.chia02.txt, chia.chia.04.txt

infection of the stomach in CFS, kerr.07.txt, kerr07.txt, kerr07.pdf. Human Herpes Virus HHV-6 & HHV-7
New ICD-9 codes: HHV-6 infection: 058.81 HHV-6 encephalitis: 058.21, HHV6.7.8.ICD-9code08.txt, ICD-9code.HHV-6.HHV-7.txt. A lecture by Dr Klimas on HHV6 and CFS, klimas.hhv6.06.txt. Summary of the HHV6 hypothesis, hhv6.news05.txt,
komaroff06.txt.
Current update from Dr. Bell, bell08.txt. The possible implication of ongoing HHV6 activity in
CFS, Krueger et al., 2001, Krueger et al., 2001(pdf). Studies in CFS and MS did find signs of
re-activation,
Ablashi et al., 2000., Eastman et al., 2001, and activated HHV6
was correlated with RNAse 37kD,
Ablashi et al., 2001. The New Jersey research group found evidence of
HHV8, Clamydia, CMV and Coxsackie (but not HHV6) in cerebrospinal fluid of
6/12 CFS patients, Levine,
2001. In a second study, they found antibodies against HHV6 in plasma
from a subset of CFS patients,
Levine et al., 2001. Dr. Buchwald's team found the
same virus markers in healthy twins as in CFS-afflicted twins, Koelle et al., 2002. An interesting letter with reply from the
authors, letter.koelle.etal03.txt. CFS patients have higher
amounts of antibodies to HSV-1 and -2, bond.dinan06.txt. Novel herpesvirus protein is associated with altered
nervous system cell activity and CFS and depression, kondo.press08.txt. Virus (HHV6) is passed from
parent to child in the DNA, virus.dna.press08.txt. Epstein-Barr Virus
Failure to recover from EBV
infection (mononucleosis) is not predictable, Buchwald et al., 2000. Dr. Klimas' team found evidence of EBV (and
possibly HHV6) re-activation in CFS, Patarca-Montero & Fletcher, 2002. Dr. Lerner found progressive
cardiomyopathy caused by incomplete virus multiplication of EBV and/or HCMV
in CFS patients, lerner.etal04.txt. Early nonstructural EBV-encoded protein can
cause immune dysregulation and produce clinical symptoms - separate from its
role in virus replication - may serve as a new approach to help identify one
of the etiological agents for CFS, glaser.etal05.txt,
glaser.etal05.pdf. EBV
viremia is associated with cell-mediated immune activation and increased
tryptophan degradation, which may partly account for the symptoms found, bellmann-weiler.etal08.txt. Parvo Virus
Parvovirus B19 has been implicated
in the initiation of CFS, Kerr
et al., 2002. The symptoms of Parvo virus infection
mimic that of CFS, matano.etal03.txt. Treatment by anti-Parvo immunoglobulins, kerr.etal03.txt, kerr.etal03.pdf.
